As some of you might know, I am currently doing my internship in the quiet town of Kerteh, attached to Vinyl Chloride (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. This week marks the fourth week into my almost-3 month long attachment to VCMSB. Here's a slight glimpse of my internship so far.
Naturally, I'm attached with the Mechanical section in the Engineering department of the company. But still I do manage to learn a little bit about everything, ranging from Process Systems (Chemical Engineering) to the management of work in within the company.
As we have full scale VCM and PVC production facilities and I am required to go into the plants from time to time, all staff are supplied with PPE's (Personal Protection Equipment).
A standard PPE set comes includes:
Safety helmet
Safety glasses
Safety goggles
Half-face respirator
Ear plugs
Ear muffs
Safety boots
Leather gloves

All personnel are required to wear their PPE's when entering the plant site, which is gated and guarded.
The respirator is surprisingly very effective in filtering out gases. Foul smelling gases can be filtered to not have any hint of its previous odour.
