Faux Ex-PE 7.5 Gathering

Aww..you probably already know that I wouldn't miss my Merdeka post for anything =) Nah, nothing anti-government or anti-homosexuals today, although seriously, those PAS Youth suckers have nothing better to do than to disrupt the MLTR concert in Genting Highlands. Today's more towards Food.

Anyway, Lye Wan hasn't seen Kok Shen in such a long time and misses him suggested having a small gathering with us ex-PE 7.5 college mates during Merdeka Day. After procrastinating and putting off the planning, we finally got to discussing it the night before the gathering, which was August 30th. We planned through MSN, and although most of the ex-classmates were included, only 5 gave feedback.

Choosing a place to eat in KL can be pretty headache-inducing, at least for me. If you're as stingy thrifty as me, you'd want someplace that fulfils your Three Golden Rules:

  • Cheap
  • Delicious
  • Big Serving

Darren at last suggested his favourite 'budget dating' restaurant, Monte's Restaurant and Bar in Sunway Pyramid. According to him, he likes it because you get cheap western set lunch for a sub-RM20 budget.

Only 5 people turned up for the faux class reunion (Me, Darren, Kok Shen, Wayne, Lye Wan), which was also a good thing as there were less people to please. Imagine if 20 people turned up and each of them had an opinion on where to eat. I know because I've tackled such 'projects' before. With only 5 people, four of us could agree on the place to eat while the fifth one would have no choice but to follow, unless of course Kok Shen wanted to eat alone. Whoops, did I just say the name of the fifth person out loud?

Imagine our horror when we got there and found out that Monte's had already closed down, replaced by Zhia's, a Chinese cuisine restaurant.

Don't ask me how, but we ended up in a newly opened Tokyo "G" restaurant.

Ambience was somewhat good. Note the Morse code-ish patterns on the wall

They were having a Buy 2 Free 1 promotion, se we got 3 Bento boxes to share amongst ourselves.

We also got a free Chameleon sushi set.

I wouldn't say I was full, but with Darren entertaining us with his card tricks and looking at Kok Shen's bewildered face, it was a good and satisfying lunch.

And it was sub-RM20 too. =D

Post Script:

But if you want truly authentic Japanese food, nothing beats the Japanese restaurants in SS15. I went there (again) recently with my dad to catch dinner.Fuck I forgot the name of that fish-Set

Their very generous serving of Chawan Mushi

They use the freshest ingredients for their food, as you can see from the redness of the salmon.
And I think me snapping photos of practically everything in the restaurant somehow made me look like a food connoisseur. The manager/owner even gave us some free soup. =DCall me along if you feel like going there someday =P
